The City of Abbotsford’s Parks Recreation and Culture department is offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to fill the role of Manager, Parks Planning. Reporting to the Director, Parks and Facilities, the Manager provides leadership and expertise in the planning, design and delivery of large scale projects spanning our City’s Parks and Cemeteries.

Through fostering positive working relationships with City departments, outside agencies and community groups, the Manager will create a vision for the growth and development of the Park system that’s aligned with the PRC Masterplan, and will help develop Neighbourhood Plans, policies and strategies. In addition, the Manager, will provide leadership for the overall budget including capital projects and plans, and grant opportunities.

As the Manager you are a strategic thinker and problem solver with sound judgement. You have the ability to motivate, mentor, coach and influence a diverse team to create a high performing work environment. You have experience as a hands-on leader and are comfortable managing multiple priorities concurrently, with the ability to move projects forward in a multi-stakeholder environment. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills allow you to build credible and trusted relationships at all levels throughout the organization and City.

As the ideal candidate, you have:

• Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in park administration, planning, landscape architecture or a related discipline;
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in the park planning profession with progressive experience at a strategic/management level;
• Strong understanding of park planning, parkland acquisition and development and community partnerships;
• Registered or eligible for registration with the British Columbia Society of Landscape Architects (BCSLA) is desirable;
• Municipal or Regional Government experience desirable.
