Parks Planner

The Parks Planning department of the Climate Action, Planning and Development Services division has an opportunity for qualified individuals to apply for the position of Parks Planner. Reporting to the Manager of Parks Planning, this position offers 72 hours bi-weekly starting approximately April 22, 2024. 

The Planner’s role is to plan, design and administer the development and delivery of high-quality outdoor public realm spaces becoming of an international resort community. This includes public spaces within the Village, municipal parks, the Valley Trail and the recreational trail network. The position also entails planning and project delivery of supporting policy documents and related objectives. The Parks Planner also manages public wayfinding and reviews and inspects landscape components on proposed larger private developments. Firs Nation, community, and interest group engagement is critical to all aspects of the position, as is collaboration with other municipal divisions and resort partners. 

The successful candidate will have proven experience with effectively facilitating and leading group discussions and public engagement; critically assessing landscape conditions and construction; and writing and presenting reports. The successful candidate is creative, diplomatic, and is a flexible thinker who is committed to promoting a diverse and inclusive workplace within their team and will create and maintain effective working relationships.  The starting wage for this job position is $52.95 per hour.  

As a requirement of the position, the successful applicant must hold a valid BC class 5 driver’s license and must provide a satisfactory driver’s abstract prior to beginning employment.

Rate of Pay: 
$52.95 an hour
Education: 

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Parks Planning or similar discipline. 

Experience: 

At least 5 years of experience in a similar role including parks and open space planning; conceptual design and development; the process of construction document preparation and tender administration; project management and budgeting and report writing. Additionally, qualified candidates will be proficient with software such as Microsoft 360, SharePoint, AutoCAD or VectorWorks and ArcGIS software and will be an intern member, eligible for full membership or, be a registered member in good standing with the BC Society of Landscape Architects.
