The City of Delta is seeking a motivated and skilled Landscape Design Technician to join our dynamic team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning, design, and enhancement of the City’s parks, green spaces, and recreational areas and plays a key role in realizing the City's vision for a range of parks projects and initiatives. The position is responsible for contributing to the Park’s capital plan, creating drawings, retaining contractors, managing the parks asset donation program, and monitoring parks planning projects as they proceed. Key Responsibilities:
- Prepares conceptual and detailed plans for assigned landscape and streetscape projects, such as those involving planting, layout and grading, subject to approval by a superior.
- Develops and recommends cost estimates, preliminary budgets and construction schedules for in-house projects; coordinates and oversees installation work performed by city crews.
- Makes site visits for proposed and approved projects; researches related planning and design data from various sources; as required, makes recommendations for future projects.
- Provides day to day contract administration oversight for assigned landscape projects; monitors adherence to construction schedules and budgets; inspects work in progress for compliance with plans, specifications and established quality standards; approves routine changes for work in progress and resolves minor disputes.
- Assists in the preparation of project specifications and tender packages; assists in the selection of consultants and in the review of consultant work proposals, designs and plans.
- Coordinates with contractors, consultants, construction foremen and other external and internal contacts on matters related to the work; participates in project planning meetings and public presentations; responds to routine enquiries and complaints from the public.
- Performs skilled drafting tasks in the preparation of landscape construction plans; prepares graphics for use in presentations.
- Coordinates with various groups on projects such as the removal of invasive plants, forest restoration, the donation of park benches, and educational programs.
- Prepares and maintains various records, reports and correspondence related to the work; reviews development permit application plans for conformance with guidelines.
Education, Experience & Requirements:
Graduation from a two-year diploma program in landscape design or landscape architecture plus sound related experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.
