According to the US Centre for Disease Control, obesity rates for children with disabilities is 38% higher than for children without disabilities. Clearly how we are designing inclusive playgrounds is not providing the physical, social and psychological benefits kids need to live a healthy life. This session looks at different ways to design an inclusive playground.

The goals of the session are to:

  1. Discuss the differences between accessible and inclusive, as they relate to playground design;
  2. Discuss the tradeoffs and consequences that individual design decisions have on the entire playground experience;
  3. Explain why playground layout is the most significant factor in designing a playground; and;
  4. Identify how inclusive playgrounds can be designed as environments that work for everyone.

Attending and completing this in-person CE session will grant you one credit.
